France scoured its mature forests searching out the oaks which could be worked, replacing the famous "forest" of Notre Dame.
As I observed the work over the years, the process of modern "Compagnons", the inheritors of the Medieval tradition of artisan guilds, seemed agonisingly slow.
The work was done with loving care, using the same methods and even the same tools as the original builders, returning the structure to its former - hidden - glory.
