Descend these stairs and you are standing at the site of the immolation for “heresy” of Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar in 1314. A hopeless end to a story of greed and religious hypocrisy in a city that has bled for its beliefs for much of its long and fascinating history.
