…And Still She Rises! The world has followed the destruction, preservation and restoration of Notre Dame, experiencing various stages of grief, hope and now awe, when we were finally allowed to see the amazing results of the work done by foresters, construction workers, engineers, architects, artisans, roofers, glass workers, art restorers, factory workers and so many other various contributors. But wait! Although the interior is stabilised, safe and open to both faithful and tourist visitors, the exterior is still a major construction site and will continue to be so until at least 2026. The roof, spire, walls, flying buttresses, statuary, stained glass windows and gardens are still far from complete restoration. Although a resident of Paris, I was completely distraught on 15 April 2019, as I had to watch from afar, on a television screen in Las Vegas, as the cathedral burned down. Since I returned home, I have been consistently documenting this reconstruction challenge, documenting the strange beauty of our lady coming back to life in my “Notre Dame From The Ashes” project.
