Grand Palais
This is the roof of a stunning building, built for the Paris Great Exhibition of 1900. The Grand Palais is still the central venue for major art shows. While wandering around the stands of a photographic exhibition, the venue itself started to fascinate me more than the exhibits. Beautiful light slanted through the glass roof, lighting the beams, emphasising the structure and the ropes and platforms equipping its central dome. I saw it in black and white and the forms drew my eye in to the central boss. I imagined it as a brooding spider, a swooping spaceship or a mangrove forest. What do you see? For myself, I found most pleasure in the interplay of swirling, circular shapes and dangling verticals.
