French aesthetic daring, in the La Defense business quarter just outside the centre of Paris. This tracery is the elevator column in the central core of the “Arche”, a building whose structure is foursquare blocks around an empty center. The tracery was spot lit on a freezing, clear night. I cropped the photograph to frame the angles and shapes to satisfy my eye. The elevator is held by tensile strength, as is the building surrounding it, an engineering feat which would explode outwards, were it not massively “tied” together internally. An aesthetic joy for me.
